The Sermon on the Mount was addressed to the disciples. The sermon is not telling us how to be saved, but how to live after we have been saved. Jesus has just called His twelve disciples and is telling them what discipleship is all about. The substance of His message is this, “If you are going to be my disciples, then you are going to have to be different – Matthew 5:17-48 shows how the disciples of Jesus Christ are to be different in their interpretation of Scripture.
The world is its own authority, but the disciple of Jesus Christ willingly puts himself under the ultimate authority of the Word of God.
A mam came to my father many years ago in Belfast, Northern Ireland and asked a question. He said, “Jack, doesn’t it say in the Bible, Eat, drink and be merry?“ My father replied, “Yes, it does say that, but…” He interrupted, “That’s alright. That’s all I want to know!”
Let’s face it, a person can twist Scripture to say whatever he wants it to say. He can force his own interpretation to justify almost any lifestyle. But the disciple of Jesus Christ must be different. Others might adjust Scripture to justify their behavior, but the disciple must allow Scripture to legislate his behavior.
So often we base our decisions and actions on feelings or preferences rather than on the rock solid teaching of God’s Word.
It doesn’t matter what you or I think, or even what our favorite author or radio preacher says – it matters what the Bible says. That’s all that matters.
The FDA also https://regencygrandenursing.com/about-us/regency-faq-s generic levitra has permitted to use Sildenafil citrate as it might result in various health impacts. Due to ridiculous expectations of male masculinity that buy viagra generic exists in most minds, the thought of losing sexual health even during the young age.
That means we need to be men and women of the Word and we need to live not according to opinions or preferences or feelings, but we need to live by Biblical standards. We need to forgive even when we don’t feel like it. We need to be honest when it would be easier to lie or cheat. We need to be committed to the marriage relationship regardless of how we have been hurt or wronged by our spouse.
The disciple of Jesus Christ is to be different.
Dedicate yourself afresh to the authority of God’s Word and submit yourself today to its teaching and principles. That’s what is going to make a difference – now and in eternity!
